Laura
I am Welcome to our Thanksgiving episode. We're definitely recording this time. What are we talking about Thanksgiving episode Laura. We talked about things we're grateful for. And that's it.

Unknown Speaker
What else to talk about on

Laura
Thanksgiving? We talked about John Candy a lot.

Nic
Yeah, Sam joins the show and you know, that happens.

Unknown Speaker
Yeah,

Laura
well, you know, we do these little short ones on the holidays so people can take a little dive in, stay engaged, but then get to eatin.

Nic
There you go. Well said.

Laura
That's what I do already.

Nic
We should stop now before it gets worse. So let's let's hit that music

Sam clothes are you certain Thanksgiving so I immediately thought Christmas

Laura
it's time to watch planes trains and automobiles that time of year.

Nic
Yes, if you want to cry during the holidays, please check out what

Laura
right I don't cry during that movie.

Nic
The end. I mean, it's sweet. Okay, what movie is this and see that's what's That's what I'm asking. I know.

Laura
On planes, trains and automobiles. It's the only Thanksgiving movie that exists.

Nic
It's a what I would call an average comedy but I don't want to offend more of us. Above average comedies

Laura
and as a plus comedy. Classic.

Nic
It's I think it's it's old. But Steve Martin and John Candy. I mean, you know, at least Steve Martin. Yes. Because he's only Mars in a building. Do you know John Kennedy is

Laura
oh god. It's only because he's not around.

Nic
When he did die like 20 years ago. He go he's been in movies he was in his movies

Laura
are some of the best

Nic
there's even like a legendary sports thing, which I also remember for no reason. I'm gonna tell you guys right now. There was like a football game where this team was down. And they're like really nervous because they only have like one drive left. And the quarterback said oh my god, is that John Candy and it was it was just interesting. They went on to win because they were like, they thought that was hilarious. And they're like, Okay, cool. We got this.

Speaker 2
Candy Candy Uncle Buck. Know that? Yeah.

Unknown Speaker
Thank you, Russell. I love Uncle Buck. Yeah,

Laura
check out Planes, Trains and Automobiles for Thanksgiving, Sam

Nic
and report back whether it holds up. Right, right. Oh, gosh. Yeah, he's even at home alone for a hot minute. Yep, that Spaceballs? Oh he's so good and looking at his IMDb stripes also overrated but he's apparently it doesn't make any sense. He's in vacation.

Laura
Right? That's a great welcome to Walley world

Nic
very funny. Anyways, but Uncle Buckeye is most popular movie that he ran I would say it was like his movie.

Laura
Oh, but the one with where he's a writer that then things come to life. That's a good one. Well, let's call it top my head. That's true crime or something like that people

Nic
around the country cool. Yeah.

Laura
But as far as Thanksgiving and things I'm grateful for. I'm grateful that I lived when I lived like during the 80s for all this good. Movies, Music MTV. I'm not Gen X. I'm MTV Gen. John Hughes Gen like that's it right there. Do you want to define me? That's it.

Nic
Job. Transitioning to our Oh, I can't even talk to you there. I can't even I can't make fun of Kansas City ancestors is Yeah, it's funny. I wonder like, I guess I don't know if everybody feels this way. But I also think that like I grew up in the best time for movies. So yeah, there's some overlap that we have, obviously, but there's also some newer ones that I like that you don't you wouldn't enjoy and vice versa, you know? Yeah. And like Sam's generation, and it's like, what's what are movies? You know, it's kind of like, where I feel like now like I don't even know when the last time went to the theater was oh, it was party but like

Laura
I can't remember, ironically, is not this generation.

Nic
Yeah, exactly. And so yeah, so weird. The weird thing. I don't know.

Laura
Sam, what's your favorite movie?

Sam Bartleson
Probably the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Oh, okay.

Laura
I can get down with that. Yeah.

Nic
All right. We'll keep her around. We'll keep Sam around. That's good to know.

Laura
But you know, some things like that's, this started in the 70s. Right. So that's been just regenerating in different forms since then, like I read those books before they were movies and they were written before I was born. So like. It's I think, I'm really not sure about that. 70s, right, like early 70s.

Nic
In the 30s, and 40s. That was certainly an allegory for World War Two. It's really what it is. It's almost exactly why he wrote it. It was his experience. That that made him write it. Also fun for everyone else who was into the Lord of the Rings. This is a great starting point. Stephen Colbert is the most Uber star a lot of the restaurant wars listen to me or Lord of the Rings fan. He knows way more than anyone else. There are so many clips of him proving their worth a deep dive. After you've had your Thanksgiving dinner or whatever, and you just need to like laugh and then fall asleep. To put it up. Stephen Colbert Lord of the Rings fan, you will not be disappointed I promise I promise. All right, well,

Laura
thankful Episode What do you thankful for Nick? Grateful for whatever like to say.

Nic
It's been a long year. It's kind of a crazy one. But like I say, even even when you know things are going wild. There's always lots to be thankful for and I don't know what those are. No kidding.

Laura
Lifeless lessons they never say.

Nic
No, but it's funny. I was actually reminded this past week that, you know, learning is a lifelong process. You never stop. You never ever stop and the more curious you are, the more you'll enjoy that and I am a really thankful that I am a curious person. And that makes me really happy because I get to learn new things. And that can understand that even when I get to it, the platform that I'm on right now, the things that I'm doing right now, there's another step to take. There's another place to go and there's more to learn to get better. And it doesn't necessarily go straight up. And as you walk around the side of the mountain so you can find a better path up to the top but, um, you know, maybe you never get to the top and that's okay, too. It's just about the journey. And so there's lots of things like that that I experienced this week specifically. I was thankful for that. So what about you?

Laura
Oh my God, so many things. Like you said, it's been a crazy year. And I think when you're going through times that are not normal. You get to find out who, who your support systems are and stuff and I'm super grateful for all of that. I'm super grateful for all of our volunteers. We've had some come and go this year but Sam Akira just like holding it down. Key holding us up like could not do this for growling until like this is the end of year three. I

Nic
know. That's what's crazy.

Laura
Yeah, end of year three no missed weeks ever.

Nic
Like I know. I know. That is wild. And yeah.

Laura
Yeah. And cannot do that without Sam and Cara and Danielle and also we have come through here this year.

Nic
Volunteer wise Morgan. Yeah. So Morgan Yes.

Laura
And you know, and of course, our producers, that team is amazing. So love all of everyone. And aside from that, my business partners everybody like I have got so many great people in my court, so to say and I couldn't be more grateful for all of that. But also just grateful that you know, I'm a bounce back person. Yeah. Things happen but, but then part of that is the support system. So all related, but I'm saying I'm you know, I'm coming after you with your turn.

Sam Bartleson
Me Yeah, kind of in the same boat. I'm glad I do. I also have a support system. I've got my now fiance Peter. Yeah, so that's exciting. I was grateful to meet this year. Yeah, that's right. Yeah, you

Nic
got you got you met him.

Laura
I got to meet Peter. Yeah, yeah.

Nic
I don't even know what he looks like.

Laura
I now know you two times. More times than I met Peter.

Nic
Oh my gosh, that's ridiculous. Okay, all right. I'm gonna the processes keep going, Sam.

Sam Bartleson
Yeah, my work family. My work mom. Courtney. Hopefully. Hopefully it's okay. Courtney, I love her and everyone else I work with they're all great. I'm not very thoughtful today, but

Nic
okay, at least okay. So she asked me what I was thankful for. And I said myself and you said everyone else which is what you should do. So yes, here

Unknown Speaker
we go. Yeah, yeah. Well, we'll spin it that way.

Nic
Yeah, and truthfully, I Yeah, support systems are really, really, really important. Especially in times exactly what you said it change. It doesn't necessarily have to be doesn't have to be good or bad. Sometimes just things are different. And even, you know, you're leaving on your support system when you need to, and sometimes that's big, and sometimes it's small. Sometimes it's just different. I can say I've had I've made some new friends this year as well, which is really great connected with some old ones again, they haven't heard from in a long time, and that's wonderful. No, it's it's really great. And I'm really thankful for that too. So it's really it's a weird time of year for a lot of people. So hopefully, you know, don't forget the good stuff. It's easy to focus on the bad so that's my parting wisdom on Thanksgiving. Just write don't forget, don't forget the good never forget the bad things.

Laura
Never forget the bad things. You can remember the good things or recognize the good things right.

Nic
That's what I meant. Yeah.

Laura
Tell us about that spin. All right. Well, hoping everyone has a wonderful, safe, healthy, happy holiday and whether you celebrate it or not, or however you celebrate it. I celebrated by eating lots and lots of food with people that I love. So it's one of it's actually my favorite holiday. I think. I

Nic
love it. Again, this is not gonna surprise you. I like to pretend that my birthday is always near it. And I'm like, Oh my gosh, it's a party and I'm the only one that gets president of the year. Like it's probably sounds exactly. Like me, right? Yeah, it's not a surprise. Okay.

Laura
And we're back to Nick again.

Nic
Sometimes you have to play the part. That's all my lane is. All right, well,

Laura
let's we gotta end this somewhere. So how about now?

Nic
Doing everybody
